Richard (Dick) Eyet, 84, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the National Health Center, Bluffton, S.C.  Dick was born in Falls, PA, to the late Glenn W. Eyet and Evelyn Lewis Eyet.  He is survived by and married 60 years to Kathleen Evanchik Eyet; brother Robert J. Eyet (Carol); sister Patricia Eyet Coolbaugh (Arthur); and sister-in-law, Jean Eyet (Glenn), and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Glenn W. Eyet, Jr.

Dick graduated from Dallas Township H.S., Dallas, PA, in 1957, and immediately joined the Marine Corps doing his training at Parris Island, S.C.  He was one of five other graduates that year that joined the Marine Corps and all five did their basic training together at Parris Island.  He served honorably eight years Reserve duty and was on-call for active duty for the Cuban crisis.

After completing his military training, he returned to Dallas, PA, to find a job.  Since none were available, he found employment in the New Brunswick, N.J. area working for Johnson & Johnson Company, and started his college night school classes at Rutgers University, graduating in 1972 with a B.S. in Business Administration.  He found his career to be in sales and after working in that field for a commercial office supply company, in 1980 he and two other sales associates started their own commercial office supply business, Raritan Valley Office Supplies, in Edison, N.J.  Dick was President and CEO for twenty years before retiring in 1998 (but still involved in the business) and he and Kathleen moved to Moss Creek Plantation, Hilton Head, Is., S.C.  They both enjoyed golfing together, biking, gardening, and building their new home, and meeting new people and doing community volunteer work.

Some of Dick’s volunteer service accomplishments include: member of the Moss Creek Marines’ non-profit organization and working the fundraising events, doing what he always did best, soliciting community businesses for contributions which were used to train service dogs for disabled and injured veterans.  He served on the Capital Campaign Fundraising Committee for the building of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Bluffton, helping to raise over one million dollars.  He was an elected Board Member of the Moss Creek Plantation community serving on various committees, particularly architectural, nominating and finance.

Dick was past President, several times, of the Back Mountain Rod and Gun Club of Tunkhannock, PA, where he held a membership for thirty years.  He helped to rebuild and maintain the hunting lodge.  He enjoyed the meetings and fellowship of the members, skeet shooting, playing horse shoes, playing cards and pool and maybe even some kitchen duty.

Dick and Kathleen moved to Sun City, Hilton Head, S.C. in November 2015, where they met wonderful neighbors and made friends, and joined the Sun City Veterans’ Association. 

It’s been a long journey for Dick and his health issues and now he’s at peace and can explore God’s gardens and forests with his brother Glenn.

A Service will be held on Saturday October 21st, 2023 at 9:30am at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.  Visitation will be from 9am until Service time.  Interment with Military Honors will be in the Fitch Cemetery, Falls.
